Global Warming - Melting Polar Ice Caps
If the polar ice caps melt, the earth will experience flooding.  Increasing levels of water will pollute fresh water supplies and threaten the ecosystems of numerous plants and animal species.  The affect on these ecosystems will directly affect communities, endangering public health, jeopardizing weakened economic infrastructure and reducing the quality of life across the globe.  Communities must take actions to safeguard their water stores in the event such a threat takes place.

I am looking forward to this Science Inquiry Experience.  I may have some questions after I complete the learning experience.

STEM Strategies Reflection

STEM Strategies Reflection

As I reflect upon the designing of my science lesson, I found that the 5 E's were very helpful to me.  This plan guided me step by step through my lesson.  It began with standards and ended with personal reflection.  The 5 E's "provided a framework for developing and delivering a high quality lesson" (Bybee, 2002).

I found that my process for planning this lesson was very different from how I usually design my lessons.  I spent several hours planning a week long unit.  It would be great if I could plan all of my lessons this way, but I don't have that kind of time.  I suspect that once I implement this lesson, I will see how the 5 E's framework helped me create an awesome lesson.  The positive results from this lesson will encourage me to change my lesson planning overtime until all of my lessons are structured using the  5 E's format.

As I implement this lesson year after year, I will need to adapt the lessons to the learning styles of each group of students I encounter.  Other issues might include the reteaching phase for students who show lack of understanding.  I will need to ensure that I provide relevant enrichment activities for my other students while the reteaching phase is in action.  I realize from this experience that "thoughtful planning guides effective teaching" (Bybee, 2002).
